Earwigs are more a nuisance than anything else. They rarely enter a home unless transported in by a person or animal or if they're looking for a retreat from hot, dry weather. They are not known to interact or pose a threat to people in any way, other than sometimes giving off a strong, fowl odor.
Not As Dangerous As They Look
For the most part, it's the look of earwigs that bothers people the most. In reality, the fearsome looking pincers protruding from their abdomen are mostly for combatting other earwigs. They feed mostly on sprouting plants or decaying vegetation and can do some damage to plants and leaves. Despite their appearance, they pose no real threat to people or pets.
